Although Nokia will soon be acquired by Microsoft, the company announced a triad of Android-powered smartphones Monday(24/02/2014) at the Mobil World Congress 2014.
Nokia's new phones, the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL are powered by Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon dual core processor, are Dual SIM and feature a Lumia-style design with a myriad of color choices.
The operating system of the phones is a modified version of Android's Jelly Bean, and the home screen looks similar to Windows Phone. The devices will not have access to Google's Play store but instead third-party app stores and Nokia's app store of its own. Continue...
"Today, Windows Phone is the fastest growing mobile ecosystem in the world, and we continue to see incredible momentum with our Lumia smartphones," said Bryan Biniak, vice president and general manager of developer experience at Nokia in a statement. "Now, with the introduction of the Nokia X family of devices, we're delivering the same design, quality and innovation Nokia is known to lower price points to capture the fastest-growing segment of the smartphone market."
The Nokia X, boasts a 4-inch IPS capacitive display and 3 megapixel camera. It includes 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card.
The Nokia X+ is almost identical to the X but comes with more storage and memory by including a 4GB microSD card and 768MB of RAM.
The Nokia XL boasts a 5-inch display with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 768MB of RAM and a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and flash. Like the X+, it too comes with a 4GB microSD card.
Nokia X, X+ and XL priced at ($122), ($136) and ($149) respectively, will be available immediately in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America but will not be coming to North America, Japan, Korea or Western Europe.
