Android in July: KitKat continues its march forward

Google's Android distribution report for July is out and shows that Android 4.4 KitKat (API 19) is continuing its march forward with 20.9%. Last month it stood at 17.9% and the growth this month came at the expense of Ice Cream Sandwich and the later builds of Jelly Bean.

Nevertheless, the most distributed version of Android remains v.4.1 Jelly Bean (API 16) with 26.5%, down from 25.7% last month. Interestingly, Gingerbread marks an insubstantial increase of 0.1 percentage points to 13.6%.
Overall, all Jelly Bean versions combined make a 54.2% share, while the older versions of the operating system stand at a total of 24.9%.
Surely, Google has a lot to expect in the near future with its Android L release and the Android One program. The latter is specifically aimed towards having affordable phones running the latest version of Android.
