Metal Galaxy Note 4 expected as Samsung promises 'new materials

The Galaxy Note 4 could feature a premium metal body as Samsung promises handsets made from “new materials”.

With the manufacturer having been repeatedly criticised for its persistent use of cheap plastic in its high-end phones – an issue we had with the Samsung Galaxy S5 – it has now hinted that more premium handset builds are on their way.

Speaking during a recent quarterly earnings call in the company’s native Korea, Samsung’s Senior Vice President of Mobile Communications, Kim Hyun-joon, is said to have promised two new high-end handsets during the next six months, both to be built using “new materials”.

Although the smartphone head failed to offer any further details on the nature of these new materials, or indeed the phones on which they will be applied, given the promised timeframe and recent leaks, a metal Note 4 is now looking increasingly likely.

With the Samsung Galaxy Alpha widely expected to be unveiled next week with a metal body and a slightly disappointing 720p, HD display, the IFA-bound Galaxy Note 4 is shaping up to be the company’s first metal bodied flagship Android handset.

Expected to be the star of the Berlin-based convention this September, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 release date is widely expected to immediately follow an IFA unveiling in a bid to stem competition from the iPhone 6.

Tipped to make the jump to a 5.7-inch , 2560 x 1440p QHD display in order to rival the LG G3, the Note 4 looks set to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and feature 3GB of RAM alongside a 16-megapixel OIS camera.

It has been reported that a metal Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will land alongside a more affordable plastic-bodied take on the same device.
