Big Brother Africa postponed due to fire incident at BBA house in SA

Big Brother Africa Hotshots which was supposed to begin this Sunday 7th September has been postponed indefinitely after a fire incident at the BBA House in Johannesburg, South Africa (pictured above). Below is a press release from M-Net.

ISIS beheads another American journalist, Steven Sotloff

ISIS released a brutal video today showing the beading of a second U.S journalist, 31 year old Steven Sotlof. Sotloff had appeared in another video where U.S Journalist James Foley was killed two weeks ago (left. Sotloff pictured right at the execution scene). And it looks like Sotloff was killed by the same executioner who killed Foley on August 19th. He had same British accent and before beheading Sotloff, the terrorist said; 

"I'm back Obama, and I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State, because of your insistence on continuing your bombings on Mosul Dam, despite our serious warning. So just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people."

Chris Brown pleads guilty to misdemeanor assault charges in D.C

Chris Brown was in court today and according to reports, he accepted a plea deal in his Washington D.C. assault case.

Chris Brown pleaded guilty, and telling the judge he just wants this case to go away so he can go on tour. Brown had been charged with misdemeanor assault for punching a man in the face outside his tour bus last October. The judge sentenced him to time already served. Brown apologized in court ... saying the case had derailed his career for the past year. Chris Brown's girlfriend Karrueche was also in the courtroom lending moral support." TMZ reports...

Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 will bring alphabetical order to settings menu

Windows Phone 8.1 has already received its first general distribution release (GDR1) but now rumors are pointing to the second one. According to sources claiming they’ve played with a functional WP device running the GDR2 software the settings menu can finally be sorted alphabetically.

Currently the WP settings menu is a list of settings prioritized the way Redmond saw best and is very confusing to many users. The source claims that the Action center will carry a mobile data toggle and that Cortana (while still in Alpha phase) will become available to more markets.

We’ve heard that GDR2 will bring support for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 chipset and 2K display resolution support but no such things have been disclosed by the source.

Rumors suggest that the GDR2 developer preview will arrive in October but it could make it sooner than that.

Apple “actively investigating” iCloud hack that leaked celebrity photos

By now you must have seen the numerous photos of female celebrities in compromising positions floating around on the internet. Some of these celebrities included the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton.

The subject of the photographs aside, it was being said that several of these photos were obtained by hacking into the iCloud account of these celebrities. HTC-made Nexus 9 Magic Cover leaks with a keyboard in tow

Details regarding the upcoming Nexus 9 tablet from HTC known as Flounder/Volantis have leaked again. The latest one concerns the tablet’s smart cover, which will have some neat tricks up its sleeve.

The information is retrieved by AndroidPolice and has a lot of credibility to it. The Magic Cover, as it’s rumored to be called, sports a Bluetooth keyboard and will be available in leather and TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethan) material options.

LG unveils Swarovski crystal studded curved OLED TV

LG has unveiled a new OLED TV that will be officially launched during IFA 2014 in Berlin. The main feature of this TV? Swarovski crystals. Lots of them.

The television’s stand features 460 luminescent Aurora Borealis crystals of three different sizes applied by hand. Other than that, this is similar to one of LG’s other full HD curved OLED panels.

The limited edition TV will be on display at IFA later this week.

The Swarovski for Samsung collection claims Gear S

The latest fashion victim of the “Swarovski for Samsung” collection is the Samsung Gear S smartwatch.

The watch’s strap will be covered with Swarovski cut crystals that will complement the curved design of the Tizen-based smartwatch.

The material used is a brand new Swarovski one – Crystal Fine Mesh – launched this month. The product integrates the crystals into the metal mesh of the Gear S so they won’t feel stamped on.

The Swarovski-adorned Samsung Gear S will be available from Samsung’s online store and experience stores starting October but there’s no word on the price yet – we’re guessing saucy.

Windows 9 teaser hints at the return of the Start menu

Windows 8 wasn’t accepted as warmly as Microsoft would have liked but a Developer Preview of Windows 9 is expected at the end this month. It’s so close that the team behind Microsoft’s Weibo account has the teasers ready, we know because they jumped the gun with one of them.

The image above – a combination of the Windows logo and the version number – was posted on the Microsoft China account with a text hinting at the lower left corner.

Sony’s next QX1 lens camera surfaces

A huge flock of press images have surfaced on the web that show off the latest lens camera from Sony – the ILCE-QX1, called the QX1 in short. It’s the successor to Sony’s QX10 and QX100, which were shown on IFA 2013 and were essentially a cameras with their own lens and sensor but that could be attached to a smartphone and use its screen as a viewfinder.

The QX10 had a 1/2.3″ sensor (around the same size as an Xperia Z2′s sensor) while the QX100 had a much bigger 1.0″ one. The leaked QX1 takes things to a whole new level with an APS-C-sized sensor and the option to swap E Mount lenses. The device should share an image sensor with one of Sony’s interchangeable lens cameras like the current flagship APS-C in Sony’s line 24MP α6000 or 20MP α5000, for instance.

InWatch and Meizu team up to offer a $65 smartwatch

The Meizu MX4 went official hours ago, but that’s not the only piece of tech the company revealed today. The company also announced a smartwatch from InWatch to complement its latest smartphone.

The two companies have teamed up to reveal the InWatch MX4 Edition. It’s a round smartwatch much like the Moto 360 and is made of metal and utilizes a round sapphire screen with a 35mm in diameter.

Sticker with Sony Xperia Z3 specs allegedly reveals all

Sony scheduled its IFA event for tomorrow but we've already seen one big Xperia Z3 Compact leak and now its big bro is out in the open as well. A photo of a Sony Xperia Z3 with a sticker on it reveals all the juicy specs of the new waterproof flagship.

The screen is still a 5.2" IPS unit with 1080p resolution and Sony's Triluminos display tech. It promises 130% coverage of the sRGB standard and 600 nits of brightness. We measured the Xperia Z2 screen at 488 nits.

Galaxy Note 4 to launch in Russia at last year's Note 3 price

IFA is barely underway and we already see pricing info for many of the new gadgets yet to be announced trickling in. The latest tidbit comes from Russia's branch of Media Markt and it's about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

The Senior Manager at the retailer claims the Galaxy Note 4 will launch at RUB 35,000, the same price as the Galaxy Note 3 last year. The price is pretty steep, it works out to $940 or €715, but that has more to do with the Russian market than the worldwide price of the new phablet. The Galaxy S5, for example, goes for RUB 30,000 ($800/€615).

A leak from mid-August suggests the Note 4 price in Indonesia will be the equivalent of €600.

Midrange Samsung Galaxy Alpha benchmarked with 64-bit SoC

A new Samsung smartphone has been caught running GFXBench. And with that we get the list of its most important specs, thankfully.

The handset has the model number SM-A5000, and this A-series has been rumored to be a new, upcoming line of Galaxy Alpha-like devices (probably featuring metallic design of their own).

The first offering in the new portfolio seems to be this A5000, which looks like it may be a pared down variation of the Galaxy Alpha.

lcatel unveils the OneTouch Flash phablet in Thailand

The latest Alcatel smartphone to be announced is the OneTouch Flash. It was introduced in Thailand for the first time, at a special event.

The Flash comes with a 5.5-inch 720p IPS touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5 MP front snapper for selfies.

It's powered by the MediaTek MT6592M chipset, which features a 1.4 GHz octa-core Cortex-A7 CPU, aided by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage (expandable via microSD).

Meizu MX4 official with 5.36-inch display and octa-core chipset

The Meixu MX4 is now official. Coming in as a massive improvement over its MX3 predecessor, the new MX4 comes with a 5.36" IPS display of 1152x1920 resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Meizu advertises the new display as an industry first combining three key features - 1100:1 contrast, 500cd/m2 brightness and 85% NTSC color gamut. The screen has an aspect of 15:9, though the bottom row of additional pixels will be used by Meizu's Flyme 4.0 OS for on-screen controls, thus leaving the full 1080p resolution for apps.

The MX4 is powered by the latest generation MediaTek MT6595 chipset. It offers an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A17 cores @ 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A7 cores @ 1.7GHz cores. Its big.LITTLE architecture will allow all eight cores to work simultaneously. The GPU in charge of graphics is the powerful quad-core PowerVR G6200, alongside 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM.

Nokia Lumia 830 may only have 10 MP camera

This Thursday, Microsoft Mobile is set to unveil two new smartphones at its pre-IFA event in Berlin. The duo has been leaked pretty extensively so far, and we know they'll be the Lumia 830 and the Lumia 730.

Regarding the former, we have so far been led to believe that it will come with a 20 MP rear camera, just like the Nokia Lumia 930, or the Lumia 1520. But a new rumor now claims that won't be the case.

Mumblings originating in China are saying that we should only expect to see a 10 MP snapper to be attached to the rear of the Lumia 830. This obviously makes some sense considering that the 830 will be positioned below the 930 in the company's portfolio, and sporting the exact same camera could hurt the sales of the more expensive model.

Alleged press images of Sony Xperia Z3 Compact made the rounds online. The photos showcase the unannounced successor of the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact in all its glory.

Unsurprisingly, the design of the upcoming device is quite similar to that of the model it is bound to replace. The most noticeable difference is the presence of a speaker slot below the display – right in line with previous leaks.

The leaked images also reveal that the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact will be available in at least four color schemes. They are white, black, red, and green.

Samsung Galaxy S Duos 3 surfaces in India

Samsung will probably make the Galaxy S Duos 3 official very soon, at least for the Indian market. That's because this device is already in stock at one Mumbai-based shop.

This is the same outlet that leaked the existence of the Galaxy Ace NXT days before its official introduction, so history may be repeating itself in this case.

And in a rather strange twist, the new Galaxy S Duos 3 has almost the exact same model number as the aforementioned Ace NXT. The new handset is thus the SM-G313HU, while the Galaxy Ace NXT is also known as the SM-G313H.

Sony SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk leak prior to IFA

A photo of the upcoming Sony SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk have leaked prior to their official unveiling at IFA 2014 in a few days.

The Sony SmartWatch 3 will feature a 1.68" display with a 320x320 pixel resolution. It'll have IP58 certification under its strap and run Android Wear instead of regular Android with a Sony skin on top.

Upcoming Gionee Elife S5.1 is the world's slimmest phone

We first heard about the Gionee Elife S5.1 via its TENAA certification in July. It's a new intriguing smartphone with 4.8" AMOLED 720p display, a quad-core processor and 8MP camera. We even got a glimpse of its design.

Today we have something better - a plethora of live images with detailed specs. Apparently the Gionee Elife S5.1 isn't the company's next flagship, instead it is going after the world's thinnest phone title. The Elife S5.1 will come in the incredibly thin 5.1mm shell, quite similar to Elife S5.5 flagship and utilizing both glass and metal.

The Elife S5.1 packs a 4.8" AMOLED display of 720p resolution and runs on the Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 processor, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The rest of the specs include an 8MP rear camera, 16GB non-expandable storage, LTE connectivity, and 2,100 mAh battery.

Google to hold an event in India on September 15

Google announced it is holding an event on September 15 in India after sending out press invites. The event is happening on Monday at 12AM with Google saying that more details will be revealed as the date draws near.

The company is likely going to reveal its detailed plans for the Android One program. Announced at Google I/O this year, the program includes phone makers Karbonn, Micromax and Spice as the first to take part.

New Moto X+1 images leak, confirm some design details

Two new images of the upcoming Moto X+1 have surfaced, courtesy of TK Tech News.

The latest images show the front and back of the phone. Along the front we see the loudspeaker below the display as on the Moto E but it's not sure if the one above the display is a second loudspeaker or just the earpiece. There are also the four sensors in the four corners of the phone similar to the Amazon Fire but their functionality remains a mystery.
