FCMB introduces account opening on Facebook

First City Monument Bank has introduced account opening on Facebook for prospective customers.
The bank said potential clients could open savings accounts with ease in the comfort of their homes, offices, or on the go via their computers or mobile devices following the recent introduction of the bank’s online account opening platform.
According to a statement by the lender, the launch of the platform coincides with the introduction of a new product called, ‘the e-savings account’.
The company said the new account was an online-based savings account, which would enable prospective customers to complete their account opening process with the FCMB without the need to fill out any physical form(s) or visit a branch. Continue....

In the statement, the bank explained that the development was aimed at utilising technology to reduce the time it would take to open an account, while also improving the customer service and customer experience.
The statement added, “The platform effectively extends the bank’s e-business offering by enabling new customers to open accounts. Existing customers already have access to various electronic banking services, including online banking, mobile banking and a range of international cards.”
The lender said its online platform could be accessed through its official website.
Although the bank noted its platform was currently offering just one savings product, it said that other types of accounts would soon be made available to give consumers the opportunity to select the right type of account for their banking needs.
The FCMB e-savings account, the bank said, was unique, adding that once information submitted passed the bank’s due process checks, customer would be provided with an account number within minutes of completion and submission of the form.
The statement quoted the Head of Retail Banking, FCMB, Mr. Olu Akanmu, as saying, “We are proud to introduce the new online account opening platform to complement our wide range of value-added offerings. This new service provides customers with a fast, reliable, less cumbersome and convenient method of commencing a banking relationship through our corporate website and Facebook page.”
He explained that the platform offered, among other advantages, cost effectiveness for both the customers and the bank, “as well as exposing our potential and existing customers to the FCMB’s reliable and convenient alternative banking channels, such as debit cards, mobile banking and ATM.”
