Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has distributed cheques totalling N160 million to 160 graduates of the state origin who made first class between 2006 and 2013. Each of them got N1 million.
Obi noted that the reward was to promote healthy competition and motivate other students to strive towards excellence.

He said each of the youths would receive N100,000 to enable them have a source of livelihood and become self-reliant.
The governor also distributed 55 buses to more public and mission schools and two fully equipped fire-fighting trucks to the state fire service out of the six trucks ordered for the agency.
In addition, he flagged off the distribution of 200 transformers to various communities bringing the number of transformers distributed by his administration to over 1,000.
Governor Obi thanked the people of the state for the support given to his administration to deliver its vision and urged them to give similar cooperation to the incoming administration of Chief Willie Obiano to enable it excel.
The Commissioner for Education, Uju Okeke, said Governor Obi’s administration had fully delivered on its promises and even surpassed targeted expectations in transforming the education sector.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Public Utilities, Water Resources and Community Development, Mr. Emeka Nwankwu, said the transformers would go a long way to improve power supply in communities and stimulate economic activities to improve the income and social wellbeing of the people.
Nwankwu said in addition to the fire-fighting trucks and equipment given to the fire service, six new fire stations were being constructed at strategic locations in Nnewi, Ihiala, Agulu, Umunze, Onitsha and Agulu.
The acting Director, State Fire Service, Mr. Anthony Ikezue, said the intervention would enhance the operations of the fire service.
