AMD has decided to jump into the storage business with its own series of gaming-focused series of solid state drives, called the R7 Series SSD.
Although these drives carry the AMD name, they will be designed and manufactured by OCZ, who will also be handling the servicing, so really you are just buying OCZ drive with a different label on top.
The R7 Series SSD use OCZ’s Barefoot 3 controller. The NAND uses Toshiba’s A19nm MLC (OCZ is owned by Toshiba now). The drive is capable of a maximum sequential read speed of 550MB/s and maximum sequential write speed of up to 530MB/s on the fastest drive. The drive is rated at 30GB per day with a warranty of 4 years.
The R7 Series SSD come in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB at $100, $164, and $299, respectively.
