Following its launch on iOS and Android back in May, Foursquare’s new check-in app called Swarm is now available for Windows Phone.
It’s been released in Microsoft’s app store today, and it will work with Windows Phone 8.1. It brings with it the set of features based around checking into places that got separated from the company’s main app for iOS and Android recently.
Speaking of the Foursquare app, that’s due to get a revamp on Windows Phone too, and soon. It’s already been redesigned focusing on discovery of places (instead of checking into them) for iOS and Android, and it’s been out for those platforms for around a week now.
Swarm obviously lets you check into places, but you can also share what you’re doing, see which of your friends are nearby, as well as easily message all of your friends who are in your proximity. The mayorships, leaderboards, and other game mechanics that once contributed to the original Foursquare app’s fame are gone however. The main idea of Swarm is sharing your location with your friends.
