Service Chiefs Screening: APC Senators defy party directive and participated


All Progressives Congress, APC, senators, yesterday ignored their party’s directive to block the confirmation of the Service Chiefs recently appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan.
About seven APC Senators participated in the screening of the new Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Air Marshal Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Major General Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, CNS, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin and Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Air Vice Marshal Adesola Amosun..Continue....

The Senators who participated in the exercise were Femi Ojudu, Ekiti Central; Akin Odunsi, Ogun West; Kabiru Marafa,Zamfara Central; Mohammed Sani Saleh,Kaduna Central; Attai Aidoko, Kogi East; Bindowo Jibrilla, Adamawa North and Boroffice Ajayi, Ondo North.
In his opening remarks during the exercise, Chairman, Joint Committee on Defence, Army, Navy and Air Force, Senator George Sekibo said the screening was in line with the provisions of the constitution as well as to completely put the armed forces under democratic control.
Security challenge capable of disintegrating Nigeria
Senator Sekibo noted that the country was going through serious security challenges in with the North-East insurgency, oil theft and the pipeline vandalization in the South-South and kidnapping in the South-East among others topping the list.
His words: “If the required attention is not given to these challenges, they are capable of disintegrating our country or putting our nation’s unity into question. It is the wish of the Senate and indeed the entire nation that no part of this country should be allowed to exist in lawlessness.”
