Tesla Powerwall is a solar powered battery pack for your home

Tesla has announced a new battery pack for homes called the Powerwall. The Powerwall is designed to utilize solar energy and then use that energy to power your home.
The Powerwall connects to your existing solar panels and charges off them. It can also charge off your existing electricity connection during night when the power rates are the lowest. The Powerwall has enough capacity to power an entire home and if you don’t want to run your house off it, it can also serve as a backup for when there is a power failure.

The Powerwall comes in 10 kWh weekly cycle and 7 kWh daily cycle models, and you can install multiple batteries in your home at the same time (up to nine). The batteries come with ten years of warranty, with optional extended ten year warranty. The 10 kWh model costs $3,500 and is recommended as a backup power source while the 7 kWh costs $3,000 and is meant more for daily use. Cost does not include solar panels or AC-DC inverter.
You can register for the Powerwall from Tesla’s website and it will be sold through distributors in late summer.
